Team Ribble at Tour de Yorkshire
The Tour de Yorkshire this year was, as every year, full of excitement and drama. Our new partnership as the Official Vehicle Supplier to Team Ribble meant that we had a closer eye than usual on proceedings and we certainly weren't disappointed: all of the team members performed excellently and two of them (Dan Bigham and John Archibald) were awarded the coveted Dimension Data Jersey for their superlative combative riding.
The early stages of the race were extremely frantic due to heavy rain, which piled stress onto the riders. After 30km and the establishment of a peloton, an early break was formed. Ribble rider Zeb Kyffin suffered a minor crash early on but quickly rejoined the peloton and helped the group of six to establish a lead of one full minute.
After placing 3rd in the first sprint, Ribble Pro Cycling rider Dan Bigham led the break but this was whittled down to just four Ribble riders after climbing the considerable summit of Cote de Bagby Hill. The quartet, working in team time trial formation, worked brilliantly together over the next 50km, with Bigham trading long turns with companions and easily recognised by his excellent aero positioning.
After the stage, Dan said, "The race again followed the same route as the women's race, starting in Bridlington and snaking its way across the North Yorkshire Moors national park ending in Scarborough, but encompassing five leg sapping climbs along the way. To add to the difficulty the weather came to test the riders with heavy intermittent rain and 40mph winds. A truly tough day out for everyone involved"
