So today, we're taking a closer look at some of the most noteworthy narratives featuring innovations, trends, and events of 2023 that have left a lasting impact on the motoring landscape. Without further ado, let's dive right in!

Electric car surge

In 2023, we saw a significant increase in new electric cars hitting the market, with many major manufacturers releasing new models or updating their existing ones. This was coupled with a growing infrastructure of charging stations, making it easier for drivers to charge up their EVs (electric vehicles) on the go. So we jumped onboard - pun intended!

Our environmentally friendly electric vehicles offer lower running costs, contribute to a cleaner future, and provide a uniquely smooth driving experience. They're equipped with a fully automatic gearbox, ensuring a smooth and effortless drive, and their compact size makes them a perfect fit for casual days out!

ULEZ

Of course, some headline-grabbing stories were a little more contentious than others. One of the biggest was the ongoing debate around London's Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ). The ULEZ stands for Ultra Low Emission Zone, a scheme introduced by the Mayor of London to improve air quality in the city. It operates in the same area as the previous T-Charge (which was replaced by ULEZ) and requires vehicles to meet specific emission standards or pay a daily charge to drive within the zone. While the scheme has successfully reduced air pollution in the capital, some drivers have raised concerns about the cost of the daily charge and its impact on their wallets.

Diesel prices

In 2023, fuel prices reached their second-highest point on record, causing financial difficulties for drivers. Car drivers faced an average increase of £12.50 per tank, while van drivers saw a more significant rise of £21.42. There was some relief, however, with a 9p per litre drop in petrol prices, resulting in almost £5 in savings for a tank, diesel costs decreased by £11.18 per 80-litre Transit van tank.

Although diesel prices remain higher than pre-pandemic levels, there are optimistic signs that pump prices may gradually return to previous norms. This has contributed to a more significant drop than expected in the UK's annual inflation rate to 3.9% in November, the lowest in two years.
